Abstract
Since its formulation by Roger Penrose in 1973, the Penrose inequality has been one of the central open problems in the mathematical theory of black holes, inspiring major developments in differential geometry, partial differential equations, and general relativity. In recent years, substantial progress has been made on the Penrose inequality and related geometric inequalities in settings involving angular momentum, electric and magnetic charge, and non-zero cosmological constant. At the same time, new advances have deepened our understanding of a broad range of black hole spacetimes, including Kerr black hole, Majumdar–Papapetrou spacetime, Kerr–AdS, as well as exact gravitational wave spacetimes such as pp-waves and Siklos waves.
