Initiated by renowned mathematician and Fields Medalist Shing-Tung Yau, Tsinghua Sanya International Mathematics Forum is an international conference center constructed by Tsinghua University with policy and financial support from Hainan Provincial Government and Sanya Municipal Government. Nestled in the mountain ranges in the northwest of Fenghuang Ridge, the southernmost tropical coastal city of China, Sanya, the forum is adjacent to Sanya Phoenix International Airport, with a straight-line distance of roughly 4.8 kilometers to Sanya Bay coastline.

Covering a land area of 140 mu with 17 buildings, the forum boasts a total construction area of nearly 30,000 square meters. Its comprehensive facilities include lecture halls, meeting rooms, libraries, dining halls, guest apartments, sports fields, fitness centers and swimming pools, providing integrated conference, accommodation and catering services to accommodate diverse academic event demands.

Committed to offering a serene and elegant academic environment, the forum hosts international mathematics conferences and other scholarly gatherings to facilitate interdisciplinary academic exchange and collaboration. It serves as a platform for exploring new research directions, developing novel theories, cultivating outstanding mathematical talents and elevating China’s research standards in mathematics and related disciplines.

In May 2013, the Tsinghua University Council formally approved the establishment of the Tsinghua Sanya International Forum Management Center, which takes charge of the forum’s construction, daily operation, administration and service delivery. Funded by Tsinghua alumnus Weixue Shi, the campus completed construction after more than one year of development.

On December 18, 2013, the opening ceremony of the 4th Tsinghua Sanya International Mathematics Forum and the unveiling ceremony of the forum’s permanent venue were held, marking the official launch of the permanent site. As of June 2026, the forum has hosted 254 mathematics conferences and 10 Mathematics Masters Forums, featuring over 6,300 thematic academic lectures. It has welcomed more than 12,000 participants from over 70 countries across six continents, including 11 Fields Medal laureates, 3 Nobel Prize winners, 11 Wolf Prize laureates, more than 110 Chinese and foreign academicians, as well as numerous mathematicians from world-leading universities and research institutions. Extensive academic exchanges have built a strong international reputation within the global mathematics community, making it a well-known high-end international conference hub for mathematicians worldwide.

Beyond regular international mathematics events, the forum also undertakes academic conferences and training programs covering physics, biomedicine, computer science, automation, aerospace engineering, history, education, sports science and other disciplines. By June 2026, it has hosted more than 250 cross-disciplinary events with a total attendance of over 21,000 participants.

Looking ahead, we will continuously upgrade campus conditions, facilities and surroundings, optimize management and service quality. Upholding the core philosophy of “Faith · Unity · Endeavor”, we march forward into the new journey of the forum’s second decade, striving to build Tsinghua Sanya International Mathematics Forum into a world-class base for academic exchange, scientific innovation and elite talent cultivation.
